Literacy Coach

Must between 15-30 $15.00 per hour/30 hours per week/ 9 weeks South Shore Public Libraries is looking for a young adult with secondary education for a position working with children over the summer months. The youth will be tasked with planning, organizing and delivering a special summer-long program for children. The youth will lead this program that will include physical, environmental, emotional, and reading literacies. The aim of the program will be help kids avoid the summer slide in literacy while enjoying the outdoors and maintaining social and emotional skills from playing and cooperating with other children all summer long.

Job tasks include ·

Work with SSPL Program Team to plan, promote and deliver seven weeks of programming for kids

· Identify weekly themes to create and prepare daily plans incorporating physical, cultural and reading and writing literacy

· Supervise and monitor program participants, ensuring participant safety and engagement

· Create summer reading-themed book lists and book displays practicing equity, diversity and inclusion principles

· Create, distribute and collect evaluation forms for participants and caregivers

· Create a best practices document for SSPL Program Team based on observations and evaluations

Special Events Assistant

Must between 15-30 $15.00 per hour/30 hours per week/ 9 weeks SSPL intends to hire a minority youth studying public relations to work as an assistant to our event planner. The candidate will support and lead special events and summer reading club including a celebration of 50 years of public library service.

Job tasks include:

-Develop, assist or lead vibrant special events and programs; specifically SSPL 50th anniversary and celebration of summer reading.

-Work closely with staff and community partners to develop authentic community outreach programs and summer events

-Develop unique full sensory programs and events Ensure all employees know the details of events and follow all safety regulations

-Help manage other summer staff and volunteers at events

-Provide exceptional customer service Due to the current unpredictable climate related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the duties of this position will be adjusted based upon current circumstances.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible and adaptable Prepare draft reports, letters, memos, proposals, and background documentation for special events and summer programming Organize and maintain filing system for special project information and materials. Adhere to all safe work procedures (including public health protocols), standards, and expectations by immediately reporting all incidents to supervisor Use digital skills, employing specialized software, to promote events online

-Perform other duties as assigned
