Special Reader Services
Home Library Service - Let the Library Come to You
If you can't get to the Library, enter the building or carry materials because of age, disability or long-term illness, the Home Library Service may be for you. Once you've registered, a trained, friendly volunteer will meet with you to find out what you want to read. The Library offers regular and large print books, audio books, magazines and paperbacks to meet your interests. A volunteer will then visit you about once a month to deliver (and return) Library materials. This service is free of charge, and volunteers are welcome! To find out more about the Home Library Service (or volunteering for it), contact Christina at 543-2548.
Large Print Books
The Library has a selection of large print books for those who are unable to read regular print. Large print books are printed on thick paper, with big, easy-to-see type. Danielle Steel, Louis L'Amour, John Grisham, or a biography… find your favourite at the Library.
Talking Books
Romance, biography, westerns… whatever your taste, find it on Talking Books. Talking Books are recorded on tape for those who are unable to read printed material. For more details, or to request an application form, ask staff or contact Christina at 543-2548. Audio books are also taped on cassettes. However, unlike Talking Books, they are available for everyone to use.
Library Outreach
Boxes of books and other library materials are loaned to Special Care Homes, in order to
reach borrowers who are unable to visit the library. The variety lent is based on the interests and requests of the residents at each Home. The length of the loan is for a period of one month. The boxes may be exchanged at the most convenient Library outlet. To request this service, contact Christina at 543-2548.
Books by Mail
Residents of the South Shore living more than 10km from a town or mobile library stop, or who are physically unable to visit a branch may also be eligible to have their books mailed to them at no cost though the Books By Mail Service. Once registered for Books By Mail, you can select books by phone or online. Contact Christina or Wanda at 543-2548 for more details.
