Books By Mail
Books By Mail is a FREE library outreach services provided for residents of the South Shore who live more than 10 km from a town or Mobile library branch, or who are physically unable to visit a branch. Residents of these areas may be eligible to have books delivered or sent in the mail.
You can select books from the Library's online catalogue. We allow four weeks from the time of mailing out until the item is due back at the library. That should allow you three weeks for the actual use of the item(s). Item(s) may be renewed if there is no waiting list. You will receive notices if items become overdue, but there is no fines for overdue materials. You cannot borrow additional books if there is overdue items on your account.
- How many items can I have out at one time?
There is no limit on the number of items you may borrow, provided no other items are overdue. How many items can be mailed to you at one time will depend on the size of your mailbox and method of picking up your mail.
- What if I don't know exactly which book titles I want?
Our online catalogue can help. The Books By Mail Coordinator will be pleased to help you find something that suits your reading tastes.
- If I am a Books By Mail patron, can I still use a Town or Mobile Library?
Yes! Your library card is valid at any of our service points. Items signed out at one of the library/mobile branches may have a different loan period.
- What if there is a delay with the postal service and my books are late getting back?
There are no fines charged on item(s) signed out through the Books By Mail service. If enough time has elapsed that you receive an overdue notice regarding the returned items please notify us immediately.
*Please Note: The Books By Mail service does not include audio books, DVDs or video recordings. Email: booksbymail@southshorepubliclibraries.ca
